Job Description:

Sales Manager – Engineering Polymers, South Germany

Territory: Southern Germany – Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse & Rhineland-Palatinate
Remote / Field-Based | Polymer Distribution

Astrantia Talent is recruiting on behalf of an established international distributor of polymers and chemical raw materials.

As part of the continued development of its German business, our client is looking for an experienced Sales Manager – Engineering Polymers to develop its activities across Southern and South-West Germany, with a particular focus on Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate (RLP).

We're looking for someone who genuinely knows the engineering plastics market — the materials, applications, processors and commercial landscape — and can turn that knowledge into new and sustainable business.

The Role

You will take commercial ownership of your territory, developing existing accounts while actively building new business for a portfolio of engineering and technical polymers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop sales of engineering polymers and technical plastics across your territory
  • Manage and grow existing customer relationships while actively developing new accounts
  • Identify and approach plastics processors, injection moulders, compounders and other relevant manufacturers
  • Develop opportunities across industries including automotive, E&E, industrial, consumer goods, appliances and technical applications
  • Understand customers' technical, application and commercial requirements and identify suitable material solutions
  • Work with a portfolio including materials such as PA, PBT, PC, ABS, PC/ABS, POM and other engineering thermoplastics and compounds
  • Develop opportunities for both standard and specialised grades
  • Negotiate pricing, volumes, commercial conditions and supply agreements
  • Manage your sales pipeline and take ownership of commercial development within the territory
  • Identify new applications, projects and market opportunities
  • Monitor market developments, competitor activity, pricing and customer demand
  • Work closely with suppliers, producers and internal product teams to develop new business
  • Support customers with material selection and coordinate technical discussions where required
  • Manage commercial activities from initial opportunity through to order, delivery and ongoing account development
  • Coordinate closely with internal customer service, logistics and supply teams
  • Maintain accurate customer and opportunity information within ERP/CRM systems

Your Profile

We're particularly interested in candidates who already have a strong understanding of the engineering plastics market in Germany and combine technical material knowledge with a genuinely commercial mindset.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience within plastics, polymers or related raw materials
  • Proven sales or business development experience within engineering polymers / engineering plastics
  • Good knowledge of materials such as PA, PBT, PC, ABS, PC/ABS, POM and/or technical compounds
  • Understanding of polymer processing, particularly injection moulding and technical plastics applications
  • Experience working with plastics converters and industrial manufacturers
  • Existing market knowledge across Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and/or Rhineland-Palatinate
  • Experience within polymer distribution, manufacturing or a related technical-commercial environment
  • Ability to identify new applications and translate customer requirements into commercial opportunities
  • Strong prospecting and new-business-development skills
  • Confidence negotiating pricing, volumes and commercial conditions
  • A self-driven approach and the ability to independently manage a sizeable geographical territory
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Experience working with ERP and CRM systems

A degree or technical qualification in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemistry, Materials Science, Business or a related discipline would be advantageous, although relevant industry experience is equally important.

Languages

  • Fluent German
  • Good professional English

Additional languages are advantageous.

The Opportunity

This role would suit someone who enjoys being close to both the material and the market.

You might currently be working as a Sales Manager, Technical Sales Manager, Area Sales Manager, Key Account Manager, Business Development Manager or Product Sales Manager within an engineering plastics producer, compounder or polymer distributor.

If you know engineering polymers, understand the processors and applications behind them, and enjoy developing a territory rather than simply maintaining one, I'd love to hear from you.
